Nola Jean Carroll's Obituary
Nola Jean Carroll, of Hurst, Texas, passed away on January 16, 2026, in Southlake, Texas. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and colleague to all who knew and loved her. She was born on March 3,1930 in Herington, Kansas, to Warren Gangwer and Cecil Tadella Grass.
Nola known as Jean by her family and friends was preceded in death by her husband James Monroe Carroll, her parents Warren and Cecil Grass, her brother Kenneth Grass and sister Eunice Hager. She is survived by her two daughters Peggy (Greg) Miller, Lisa (Bill) DeFord and son Jim Carroll, 6 grandchildren: Chris (Summer) Miller, Erica (Clint) Freeman, Matt (Micaela) DeFord, Laura Watts (Collier), Jason Carroll ( Lizzy) and Jonny Carroll (Stephanie), 16 great grandchildren: Brayden Miller, Autumn (Patrick) Dewing, Izzy Miller, Rebekah, Hannah, Joannah & Lydiah Freeman, Jackson & Hudson DeFord, Riley and Lincoln Watts, Jude, Cecily Carroll, Josh, Jonah and Julia Carroll and one great-great grandchild on the way. She had two wonderful friends/caregivers Rosie Moreno and Gracie Kanyike.
Jean graduated from Herington High School in 1948 before attending Emporia State Teachers College where she majored in physical education and was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. In 1950 she met Jim Carroll who was working and living in Herington, KS and they married December 26,1950 in Clovis, NM.
Jean worked for the Garland Independent School District for 17 years as a Special Education Teachers Aide and loved telling stories about all her sweet students.
Her hobbies included shopping, dancing (mostly round dancing) and sports (always out coaching the coaches.) She had an avid love for dogs and had a variety of pets during her life including cats, fish, parakeets and a pet chicken as a little girl.
Jean put her faith in Christ and was baptized at the Baptist church in Lockney, Texas. In later years she attended the First Baptist Church in Garland and First Baptist Euless.
Celebration of life was January 18, 2026, at Restland Funeral Home.
