Nonnie Sue Blocker Dierck's Obituary
Nonnie Sue Blocker Dierck, a truly artistic and colorful soul, departed this world on May 5, 2017, at the age of 77, in McAllen, TX. She was born in Dallas, TX on April 19, 1940 to parents, Margaret and Harry E. Blocker, Jr. Nonnie never met a stranger and always found her “best friend” around every corner. One of the most lively and imaginative in her class, Nonnie Sue graduated Hillcrest High School in 1958. She attended Texas Tech University where she was vibrant in sorority life and brought her originality and creativity to the Pi Phi sisterhood. After taking a break from her studies to start a family, Nonnie earned her Bachelor Degree from the College of Education at Texas Woman’s University, specialization in deaf education. Recognized by her peers as a leader in Deaf Education, Nonnie taught at The Callier Center in Dallas and trained fellow educators in Parent/Infant teaching techniques. Following her dream of retiring to the Texas Hill Country, Nonnie and her husband Wally settled in Wimberley, TX on a lovely piece of property blanketed in her favorite bluebonnet wild flowers. This artistic hill country community was a perfect fit for their love of antiques and Nonnie’s passion for crafts. During this joyous chapter in their lives, Nonnie was active in the Red Hat Club, the Wimberley Library and worked with non-profits such as CASA and Angels for Elders as well as sharing her talents as Mrs. Claus during the annual Trail of Lights at the EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens. Nonnie’s bright smile, sense of humor, colorful language and love for others will be greatly missed. Nonnie is survived by her brother John Blocker (Gail), children Heath and Barbara Smith, Kelly and Sumi Smith, and grandchildren Austin Smith, Jordan Smith, and Tammy Smith. Nonnie was preceded in death by husband, Wallace Dierck and brother, Gene Blocker. Graveside services will be held at Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery in Dallas, TX on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens, 1101 Ranch Rd. 2325, Wimberley, TX 78676.
