Nora Ann Barnes, 96 years young of Richardson, Texas passed away on July 25, 2018, peacefully at her home in Richardson. She was born on September 25, 1921, to Warren Gates and Alma Gates in Marland, Oklahoma. She married Benjamin Read Obituary
I am going to miss my “BIG” hug on Sunday mornings! Nora was very special to me and such a wonderful example of what being a Christian means. I visited with her two weeks ago. I sat on her bed and held her hand while we talked. She was a remarkable woman with a huge heart, and I will miss her.
Nana (I was lucky to call her that) welcomed me into her family when I married her grandson, Heath Barnes. She treated me as if I where a blood relative and, just as the obituary read, I received calls and cards on my birthday. I so appreciated that since I lost both of my grandmothers as a young girl. I am going to miss her and that gigantic heart she had for everyone.
I was fortunate to get to know Mrs. Barnes over the years at the Christmas luncheon that her son Tommy helped put together. I have known Tommy since Little League days growing up in Denison. She was indeed a special lady as I saw how Tommy’s friends interacted with her.May the family sense God’s love in a special way during this time of loss.

We met this sweet lady, Nora, when our daughter, Ashley, married her grandson, John Barnes in 2001. Even at that first meeting, we saw her as a true matriarch who was loved dearly by her entire family. What a wonderful legacy she leaves all of you. As you experience both sorrow and joy at this time, know that God has blessed you with a life influenced by Nora Barnes.
Dearest Aunt Nora…you will always be remembered for all the great memories and times we shared together. We will miss your smile and kind words, and you will forever be in our hearts.
