Nora Frances Diaz's Obituary
Nora Frances (Naughton) Diaz, age 92, of Richardson TX passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023 after a brief illness.
Nora was born to John and Norah Naughton in New York City. She attended St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic School and Cathedral High School and then went on to receive a BA degree in Political Science and German from Hunter College where she was a member of Phi Betta Kappa, having also studied Latin, Italian, Spanish, and French. After college, she spent a year in Madrid, Spain working for the Navy OICC which was building SAC bases. She went on to work at Eastman Kodak where she met her husband Armand Diaz. They relocated to Richardson, Texas in 1967 for her husband’s job transfer. After he passed away thirty years ago, she remained in her Richardson home for the rest of her days.
Throughout her life, Nora was a strong advocate for stray animals, particularly cats. She fed and cared for many both in and outside her home over the decades, and routinely contributed to organizations supporting these. She was also an avid watcher of the politics in our country, and had keen interest in the happenings of recent years. She enjoyed working the New York Times crossword puzzle, always with a pen. While her daughters were younger she was a ‘skating mom’, escorting them to figure skating practice and to various events and competitions in the local and regional area. In recent years, she enjoyed spending time with her family, sitting on her porch with her adopted outside cats, visiting with neighbors, and watching her daily news shows.
She was predeceased by her husband Armand Diaz, her parents John and Norah Naughton, and her sister Mary. She is survived by her daughters Noreen (John) Eshleman and Mary (Gary) Chapman, and two granddaughters, Mary Frances and Bridget Eshleman.
Nora’s family would like to thank her doctors and other health care providers including Gary, Madison, and Marie at Results Physiotherapy who gave her good workouts in support of her condition.
Relatives and friends are respectively invited to attend services at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Richardson, Tx (Rosary at 10:30 am on Friday, July 28,2023 and Funeral mass on Friday, July 28 at 11:00am). Burial will follow Friday at Restland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Operation Kindness (Carrollton, TX) or Paws of Honor (Williamsburg, VA), or the animal care organization of your choice.
