Norma Tvete Carlson's Obituary
Norma Tvete Carlson, 83, passed away on August 13, 2019 in Rockwall, Texas. She is survived by her husband Rod Carlson, cousin David Fisher and three step children, Richard Carlson, Diane Brumbelow and David Carlson.Norma was born on August 5, 1936 in Seattle, Washington. When she was a little girl her parents, Norman and Clara Tvete moved to Rowlett, North Dakota and opened up a general store. Her high school graduating class consisted of 8 students who all attended their 50th reunion. Norma went to the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks with a passion for singing, dance and the theater. She graduated in 1965 from North Dakota State University in Fargo North Dakota with a Degree in Home Economics. She moved to Dallas in 1965 and became a Registered Dietitian at Baylor Hospital on Gaston Avenue. She worked as a Dietitian for Baylor Hospital for a year and then then joined the Dallas Independent School District. Over the years she was promoted to head Dietitian for DISD overseeing 16 schools.Norma married Rod Carlson on July, 16, 1968 where they recently celebrated their 51st Anniversary. Norma and Rod built a home and moved to Rockwall in 1972 at Lakeside Village on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard.Norma went back to school to attain her teaching certificate and helped start the Culinary Arts Cluster in the Magnet-Career Development Center at Skyline High School. Besides helping to develop the Culinary Arts Cluster, she actively assisted her students in attaining jobs in the areas of restaurant, hotel and food service management. Norma took early retirement at age 60 and started a new career as a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant.Norma brought her parents from Phoenix, Arizona to live in Dallas at Monticello West Senior Living Community.She was always passionate about helping others and would visit numerous retirement homes providing free manicures and facials along with selling clothing and jewelry. She often provided personal shopping services to her clients at the retirement homes for their clothing and jewelry needs. Norma also enjoyed offering free makeup services for contestants of the Ms. Texas Senior Classic Pageants.Norma and Rod’s passion was traveling the world, boating and animals. Together they raised 11 dogs and 6 cats who often came from shelters. Norma loved attending the theater, musicals, and concerts with her family and friends and was a longtime patron of The Dallas Opera.Norma will be laid to rest close to her beloved parents at the Abbey Mausoleum at Restland. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 11am at Restland Funeral Home at the Memorial Chapel at 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243.
