Norma Ann Clifton's Obituary
Norma Ann Clifton, age 96, was born November 13, 1915 to the late James Arthur Gilstrap and Iva Edna Bray in Haskell, Texas and passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 4, 2012 in Greenville, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, Rogers Gilstrap, sisters, Verna Johnson and Lucille Clifton. She is survived by Van Clifton and wife Ann of Greenville and Gil Clifton and wife Sondra of Manor, Texas. She is survived by a sister, Ruth Nail of Haskell, four grand children, Laura Woodson of Hawkins, Stephanie Solima of Franklin, Tennessee, Rodney Clifton of Celeste and Greg Clifton of Plano. She has four great grandchildren, Meredith Yoakum of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Mallory Michel of Mineola, Thomas Clifton of Greenville, Andy Solima of Franklin, Tennessee and great- great grandchildren, McKayla Yoakum and Brennon McCann and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas under the direction of Brian Padelford Friday, April 6, 2012 at 2:00pm. She graduated from Haskell High school as valedictorian and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from North Texas State University and a Masters Degree from East Texas State University. Norma married Roderick Engle Clifton November 10, 1934 and celebrated 57 anniversaries ending with Rod’s death in 1992. She began her teaching career in Haskell County, quit to raise a family and returned to teaching 20 years later and taught 21 years in the Mesquite Independent School District until she retired. She was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church. She was a lovable person, had many friends, and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. Pallbearers will be Tim Woodson, Rodney Clifton, Greg Clifton and Thomas Clifton.
