Norma Cave Dozier's Obituary
Norma Jean Cave Dozier was a remarkable woman in so many ways. She was born on January 23, 1926 in New Bloomfield, Missouri. She was the daughter of Beulah Corley Cave and Marcellus Weber Cave and she was the 10th of 14 children. She grew up on the family farm which she inherited and owned right up until her passing. With all her brothers and sisters, it was always the happiest place for her. Norma graduated from New Bloomfield High School in1944. She immediately entered the US Army Cadet Nurse Corps, training in Memphis, TN, hoping to receive orders to ship overseas to support the war effort. Her high school sweetheart, William Elgin Dozier was already serving in the Navy, primarily in the South Pacific. It was just as Norma was ready to graduate that the war ended and her nursing program was closed, so she returned home. There, she renewed her relationship with Elgin and they were married on November 10, 1946. Over the next 69 plus years, they traveled around the world many times and lived in Missouri, Pennsylvania, Kansas, Oklahoma and finally in Dallas. They were blessed with three children, Allyson, Charles and Barbara plus 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren with number 9 arriving in November.
When Norma Jean and Elgin moved to Dallas, she went back to school.
She graduated from Baylor Dental College in 1963 as a dental hygienist.
She loved that work for 26 years and retired. Two years later, she opened a very successful business of her own, a southwestern art, artifacts and furniture gallery called Doziers of Dallas. Over the next 20 years, she and Elgin retired briefly a couple of times, but always reopened it again. Some time after Elgin passed away in 2016, Norma moved to Tradition Retirement/Assisted Living Centers in Dallas and then Fort Worth. In both places she was beloved and treated with care and compassion.
Norma Jean passed from this life to life eternal on July 30, 2025 at the age of 99. She has been greatly loved and will be deeply missed and long remembered.
