Norma Elaine Hesdorffer's Obituary
Norma Hesdorffer passed away peacefully with family by her side on November 21st, 2024, at the age of 80. She was born Norma Elaine Johns on April 2, 1944, to Bernice and Cecil Johns in Dallas, Texas. She attended Dallas Independent School District and was a proud graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. While Norma was a young teenager, one of her favorite Dallas spots was the former Highland Park Soda Fountain where she and her sisters would go to have a “coke float” and meet up with friends! Norma adored her son, Chris McKay, and balanced her time between family, friends, and her life-long career at Blue Cross Blue Shield in Richardson, TX. On October 26, 1975, Norma fell in love and married Gordon Hesdorffer, and the two began a marriage to last for 49 years. Norma had a beautiful way of loving and connecting with people across all walks of life. Norma enjoyed volunteering, reading, the arts, attending theater events, traveling with her husband and friends, and especially enjoyed her monthly book club gatherings. She was a very proud “Mimi” and loved her two grandchildren immensely. She delighted in watching her granddaughter dance and her grandson play ball. Norma’s kind heart was filled with acceptance, and if ever fortunate enough to have had a long conversation with Norma, a feeling of warmth and appreciation would surely follow.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents Bernice and Cecil Johns, sisters, Kay Robinson and Holly Norrell (Larry), and in-laws, Inez and Rob Scott and Mae and Hiller Hesdorffer.
She is survived by her husband, Gordon, son Chris McKay (Jill), grandchildren, Madison McKay Campbell (Carson) and Eli McKay, sisters Patti Lauterbach (Mike) and Gayle Kannenburg (Hugh), brother David Johns, brother-in-law Lary Hesdorffer (Ed), and many nieces and nephews.
Norma’s inurnment will be held at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas on December 23rd at noon. Please join the family at 11:00am at Restland to gather and caravan over to the inurnment at 11:45am.
