My Aunt Lucille was getting up in age and wasn't expected to live long so I made a trip to Dallas to visit her. We lived so far apart but I remember all the times she came to visit the family in West Virginia. I knew she had a son, but she never brought him with her. So technically this would be the first time that I had met my cousin Norman. Every day, Norman would come to his mother Lucille's house to bring her meals and spend some time with her. I got to know him pretty good during this time and I stayed about a week. Norman actually took the time to drive me around Dallas and share a little bit of history with me. It was wonderful and I felt very comfortable with him.
But the memory that stands out the most for me was when he drove to the country towards where the TV series Dallas was filmed called South Fork. Actually we didn't go that far. He wanted to show me the Long Horn Cattle out in the fields. Miles and miles of farm land. He had a way of stopping the car when nobody was around and act like he was bucking the long horn with the car. Teasing them. Getting them fired up where they would chase us behind the fence. It was funny but scary. He got a kick out if that. He took me to a hugh grocery store that I had never been to before. I think it was called Whole Foods. He made sure that even though I was visiting his Mom, he took the time to show me around. We got to know each other better over the years on the phone occasionally. I will truly miss him. Rest in peace Norman. Until we meet again. Your cousin -Laura Weddle
