Norman Wayne Stepter's Obituary
Norman Wayne Stepter departed this world on Wednesday afternoon, May 25, 2022. He rejoined Maureen, his beloved wife of 45 years, in their heavenly home.
Norman was born on July 31, 1939, in Dallas, Texas, the son of George Douglas Stepter and Jacquelin Frehner Stepter. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas. He served in the United States Marine Corps on the island of Guam and returned to complete his education at Austin College in Sherman, Texas.
Norman worked as an electronics technician at Lucent Technologies (formerly the Western Electric subsidiary of AT&T}, retiring in 1985. Providentially, Maureen also worked there, and they began their life journey together in 1977.
Norman was a committed Christian and a longtime member of Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas. Following retirement, both Maureen and Norman worked at the church, where Norman served as a Facilities Assistant. Both were instrumental in the success of the "Adventurers" program at Wilshire and organized many wonderful trips for the church's senior adults.
Norman enjoyed people and people enjoyed Norman. He was a trained, professional clown and a member of the Hella Shrine Clown Association. His clowning brought much joy to children and others at hospitals, parties, parades, and many similar events.
Early in 2022, Norman moved to the Arbor House Assisted Living and Memory Care facility in Waco. The family is most grateful to all the staff at Arbor House for their genuine and loving care, concern, and respect for Norman and indeed all their residents.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, George and Jacquelin Stepter, his wife Maureen, and his brother George. He is survived by cousins Sherrill Stepter and wife Norma of Haslet, TX, Louis Stepter and wife Prudy of Neenah, WI, and Charles "Chuck" and wife Marie of Orlando, FL In addition, Norman is survived by many of Maureen's nieces and nephews who enthusiastically welcomed him into the family.
A funeral service will be held in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, Texas on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 10:30am, preceded by a visitation with friends and family from 9:30 to 10:30am. Burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wilshire Baptist Church.
