Norvel Jewell Trask's Obituary
Norvel Jewell Trask, loving husband, father, Papa, friend, mentor, and teacher passed away Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the age of 88. Norvel was born June 12, 1926 in Fairland, Oklahoma to Julius E. Trask and Nora Nance Trask. Norvel was a Navy veteran serving as a radar man in the Pacific fleet during WW II. After returning from the Navy, he enrolled in college and played football at both NEO A&M in Miami, Oklahoma and Kansas State in Pittsburg, Kansas, where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. After graduation, he taught and coached in Pryor, Oklahoma and Stilwell, Oklahoma. Norvel and his family then moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma where he began his career with State Farm Insurance as a sales agent. He then made a move to Corpus Christi, Texas as a manager, and later to Dallas, where he worked for State Farm for the rest of his career. He retired in 1991 as a Deputy Regional Vice President of the Southwest Region. Norvel is preceded in death by his mother, father, and 8 siblings. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Vela Trask of Dallas, TX; daughters, Vicki Trask Layton (Jim) of Richardson, TX, and Leslie Trask Baccus (Duane) of Carrollton, TX; grandchildren, Grant Layton, Courtney Layton Peeler (Price), Corri Baccus Peterson (Wess), Kimberly Baccus Smith (Matt), Kelsey Baccus; 5 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the 3rd floor caregivers at Sunrise of Plano for their loving care during Norvel’s last months. The visitation for Norvel will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. A celebration of Norvel’s life will be at 2:30 PM on Thursday, September 4, 2014 in The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society.
