Gene Norwood Garnett's Obituary
GARNETT, GENE NORWOOD, 84 of Dallas, Texas passed away peacefully at his home on March 8, 2014 with his wife by his bedside. He was born in Driftwood, Texas on January 26. 1930, son of Paul Norwood Garnett and Nina Tschoeoe Garnett (Wiesner). Gene graduated from Dripping Springs High School in 1947 as Valedictorian. He attended Edinburg Junior College for pre-engineering, and he received a Bachelor of Science, Petroleum Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in June 1952. He was married to Mary Barbara Peel on September 27, 1954, in Baxterville, Mississippi. Following Barbara’s death in 1991, Gene married Brigid Anne Keane on December 11, 1993, in Fort Worth, Texas. Gene began his career in June 1952 at Sun Oil Company as a Junior Petroleum Engineer Trainee, where he performed in the roles of Roughneck, Roustabout, Pumper, Clerk, and Oil Tester in various locations in Louisiana and Texas. By November 1972, he had progressed to District Production Superintendent at Sun, supervising all operations in a 15-county area, directing the activities of 50 field personnel. Gene then joined Powers Operating Company in Corpus Christi, Texas as a Petroleum Engineer, evaluating oil and gas properties and planning and directing drilling and work-over operations, In March 1973, Gene struck out on his own as an Independent Consultant Engineer in Corpus Christi, Texas, specializing in property evaluation, programming of drilling wells, and supervision of work-over and re-entry operations. Moving to Dallas, Texas in March 1975, Gene became a Vice President and Property Manager in the Trust Oil Department at First National Bank of Dallas (Interfirst Bank), where he managed some 3500 petroleum and mineral properties having a fair market value in excess of $22 million and he served as fiduciary for approximately 150 trusts, estates, and agencies. In July 1981, Gene was hand-picked to become Vice President of Wintergreen Energy Corporation, where Gene served, buying and investing in oil and gas properties for the Bisiker family, until his retirement in April 1999. He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Texas State Board of Professional Engineers. Gene loved many music genres, excellent food, and the arts. His favorite activities were traveling with his wife Brigid, reading 3 different papers daily, riding his stationery bike, and graphing and studying the stock market, to list a few. Gene loved his family deeply, cared very well for them, and imparted excellent guidance. It was always his desire to provide a meaningful life, a large measure of contentment, and a good sense of values. Gene was survived by his beloved wife, Brigid Anne Keane Garnett; daughter, Laura Jean Garnett Gausman; granddaughters, Rachel Yvonne Gausman and Barbara Nicole Gausman; brother, Jerry Lee Garnett, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243, on Monday, March 10, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with Rosary beginning at 7:00 PM. Funeral will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 9643 Ferndale Road, Dallas, Texas 75238, on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at 11:00 AM In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to: Alzheimer’s Association Greater Dallas Chapter, 4144 N.
