Olga Beatriz Baca's Obituary
Olga B. Baca, (93) resident of Galveston for over 60 years, passed away gently in her sleep on April 24th, Easter Sunday morning, in Plano, Texas. Ms. Baca had moved to Plano in 2008 to be closer to her niece and husband, Bonnie & Dan Mueller. As was her nature, she quickly made friends at her assisted living residence. She was loved for her sharp mind and quick wit. She was also a keen observer of people and life and would come up with the most hilarious and insightful expressions to convey what she observed. She was often admired for her self-sufficiency and resiliency. Through her independence, she was a role model to all who encountered her, especially girls, because she was self-reliant before it was expected of women. Ms. Baca was born in El Paso and grew up in Tucumcari, NM. She moved to Galveston in 1947 and spoke often of how beautiful Galveston had been at that time. She worked for 30 years at UTMB, working up to a Unit Manager. She often told wonderful and humorous stories about her experiences at UTMB and was a charter member of the UTMB Retirees Association. Ms. Baca was known for her excellent cooking, her love of Spanish novellas, big band and mariachi music, and all types of flowers. She had the gift of gab but was quick to lend an ear to anyone. She never hesitated to sacrifice her time and labor to help friends and family in need. Her brother, Louis Baca of El Paso, preceded her in death. She is survived by her sisters, Sara Ferrino of Galveston and Angelina Pope of Denver; brothers, Tom (& Clara) Atkins of Calif., and George (& Ernestine) Atkins of El Paso. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and was especially close to nieces, Bonnie (& Dan) Mueller, April Ferrino of Austin, Melinda (& Russell) Chance of Hurst, and nephews George (& Marolah) Atkins and James (& Maria) Venegas of El Paso. She was an important part of her great nieces’ lives from birth to adulthood, Lauren Mueller Dechiro (& Jon) of Austin and Kymberly Mueller of Plano. She was also able to enjoy her great, great nephew, Aedan Dechiro of Austin. Olga B. Baca was beloved by many and will be very deeply missed. We rest in assurance that she is with the Lord, free in spirit and body. Funeral services will be at 10 am Friday at Wildwood Chapel, Restland, in Dallas, officiated by Deacon Don Turner. Friends of Ms. Baca are welcome to attend the graveside service at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery at 1 pm on Saturday, April 30th, officiated by Deacon John Pistone.
