Olga Ruth Medellin Marroquin's Obituary
Olga Ruth Medellin Marroquin, who passed away at her home on Nov. 22, loved and was loved with abundance. Born on March 4, 1932, in San Antonio, Texas, she brought her radiant light to her parents, Juan and Guadalupe Medellin, and later to her younger brother, Horace, all of whom preceded her in death. She loved her Lord, her husband and family, her friends, her church family, with an embracing and pure love. With her infectious smile and giving spirit, she made every room she entered a place of warmth. When she asked how you were doing, she truly wanted to know; it was never just small talk. She would look you in the eye, smile that luminous smile, take your hand with a loving squeeze, and you immediately felt heard, understood, and safe. She had a passion for prayer, and if you knew her you were always in her prayers. She loved to laugh and experiment with new recipes, talk and hold hands, and simply be with those she cared so deeply for – and she loved music. She played piano in her younger days and was a devoted member of the Axe Memorial United Methodist Chancel Choir for many years. While she rejoiced singing favorite hymns in both English and Spanish, she also enjoyed dancing to the rhythms of popular music of the day such as Sergio Mendes and was even known on occasion to be moved to tears by the music of Jimi Hendrix. She was a devoted wife to her loving husband, Jerry Marroquin, for 65 years – her peaceful passing came just one day after crossing that milestone – and the most precious of mothers to her three children, Bea, Jerome, and Louis, all of whom considered her not only their cherished mother but their best of friends. She was that type of Sunday school teacher whom the children she taught – now all grown up – still recall her gracious influence and loving direction. Olga’s relationships were always lifelong; she was a friend for life to the many friends she made in her career as an executive assistant and a compassionate confidant to the members of her church family. She will leave an impossible-to-fill void in the lives of everyone who knew her, but also the most beautiful of memories for all who were lucky enough to share in her fellowship. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Marroquin, of Garland, Texas; daughter Bea Knagg and son-in-law Richard Knagg of Garland; son Jerome Marroquin and daughter-in-law Terri Marroquin of Fallbrook, Calif.; son Louis Marroquin of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren John Knagg (wife Terri), Eric Knagg (wife Jennifer), Alex Knagg (wife Vanessa), all of Texas; and Bethany Marroquin, Josiah Marroquin (wife Lynette), Micah Marroquin, and Caleb Marroquin, all of California; six great-grandchildren; and loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to count.A memorial service will be held Monday, Nov. 27, at 2 p.m. at Axe Memorial United Methodist Church, 1700 W. Kingsley Road, Garland, TX 75041. The family requests that memorial gifts be made to Axe Memorial United Methodist Church.
