Onita Gladys Scott's Obituary
SCOTT, ONITA GLADYS passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at age 98. Onita was a dedicated wife and mother who spent her life in service to her family, her church and community. Born in Avalon, TX on May 28, 1914 to Lula Belle and Lawrence Greenhaw, Onita attended North TX State Teachers College and SMU. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Leslie Scott. Onita is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Jeannie and David Nethery of Dallas, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Joyce Scott of Tyler, TX. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Pat Greenhaw. Onita taught children’s Sunday School classes for over 50 years, impacting many young lives. She was also known for her ability to entertain with humorous book reviews. Her unwavering faith in God and her positive outlook served her well throughout her life. Onita leaves a legacy of love and friendship that is unmatched. The family is grateful to her devoted caregivers and Heritage Hospice for their loving care. Her family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM , December 27 at Restland Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 12:30 pm, December 28 at Wildwood Chapel, Restland Memorial Park. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Onita Scott Memorial Fund, First United Methodist Church in Mesquite or AFB Center on Vision Loss, 11030 Ables Lane, Dallas, TX 75229.
