Mr. Ophie L Bennett's Obituary
Ophie Bennett of Carrollton, Texas began his life in Plainview, Texas where he was the son of Thomas Ivey (Doc) Bennett and Lorene Lovvorn Bennett. He grew up in Itasca, Texas where he graduated from Itasca High School and then went on to serve in U.S. Army. He worked at Braniff Airlines until he became a hairdresser in 1965. Ophie and his wife Kathi owned a hair salon for 30 years before retiring in 1998.
Upon his retirement he spent his time doing the things he loved, spending time with his wife, Kathi, as well his family, watching his grandchildren’s sporting events, dance recitals and concerts. He also loved fishing, gardening, traveling to the beach and having fish fries and barbecues. He will always be remembered for being a wonderful husband, Dad and Papa, as well as for his kindness, his sense of humor, his love of being outdoors and his love of a good party.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathi (nee Cook), daughters Monique Payne (Joel) and Challis Castleberry, 4 grandchildren, Kalyn and Marley Payne, and Chance and Bennett Castleberry, as well as his sister Wyvonne Johnson (Charles) and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday January 28, 2020 from 3pm-5pm at Restland Funeral Home 13005 Greenville Ave. Dallas, TX 75243.
The family will be honoring Ophie’s life in a private intimate service on Friday, January 29, 2020 at Restland Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Ophie can be made to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
