Mrs. Ora Lee Tucker's Obituary
TUCKER, ORA ‘Praise the Lord, O my soul. I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.’ Psalm 146: 2 Funeral services for Mrs. Ora Lee Tucker will be held Thursday, October 4, 2007, at the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 408 Milton Street, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Steve L. Miller officiating. Mrs. Ora Lee Tucker was born May 9, 1927 in Harrison County, the daughter of the late George and Minnie Ola Amos. She departed this life on Thursday, September 27, 2007 in Garland, Texas after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Tucker was a graduate of the Marshall Public Schools, attending and graduating from Pemberton High and receiving her undergraduate degree in education from Wiley College. She later earned her Master’s degree in educational administration and supervision from Prairie View A&M University. Upon graduation from Wiley College, Mrs. Tucker began her teaching career in the Karnack Independent School District. There, over the course of 38 years, she advanced from classroom teacher to assistant principal of the local high school and later principal of the elementary school. After her retirement in 1985, she became an active member in the local Retired Teachers Association. An active member of the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church for many years, Mrs. Tucker was a faithful member until her death. She served for a period of time as the secretary of the Sunday School. Mrs. Tucker was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Lee Elton Tucker, who preceded her in death on September 9, 1989. At the time of his passing, they were married for 42 years. Survivors who cherish her memory are a loving daughter, Cheryl Alexander of Garland, Texas; a devoted son-in-law, Donnell Alexander also of Garland; loving grandchildren, Micah Alexander, Morgan Henderson, Matthew Alexander, Mitchell Alexander and Sydnie Henderson, all of Garland, Texas. Mrs. Tucker also leaves to mourn her passing four nieces, Diane Glover of Arlington, Texas, Lisa Amos of Fort Worth, Texas, Carolyn Roberson and Linda Clark both of Desoto, Texas. She also leaves behind a nephew, Leon Amos of Alaska. A brother and sister, Richard and Lizzie Amos, preceded her in death.
