Oscar "Bob" Collier Jr.'s Obituary
Collier, Oscar “Bob” of Dallas passed away on June 4, 2010. Joining the Army National Guard in 1939. Bob was callled to active duty in the United States Army after the U.S. entered that war in 1941. He served in North Africa and in the Battle of the Bulge in the liberation of Germany. He was separated as a Sergeant. He proudly served in World War II from 1939 to 1945. Bob returned home to Dallas and began civilian life in a succession of occupations ranging from a Dallas police officer, mortician and ambulance driver. Bob met and married his firs wife Charlotte, which he shared 43 wonderful years until her death in 1995. During this time Bob decided to start in a new direction by attending Southern Methodist University, where he received a degree in accounting. Bob then became a partner in a brokerage firm. Bob owned and operated his own businesses, AA Manufacturing at the age of 80 and A-1 Powder Coat Paint Company. Before leaving A-1 Powder Coat Paint Company Bob transferred ownership of the company to his employee and friend, Nino. Bob spent his yearsspent his years serving his coummunity through different organizations and charities. He remained an active member and deacon of Park City Baptist Church. Bob also gave generously to Dallas Baptist University and most recently the National World War II Veteran’s Memorial in Washington D.C. Oscar “Bob” Collier was honored as the National World War II Veteran of the Year in 2005, by the Association of Military Recruiters and Counselors (AMRAC). Bob also wrote and published his autobiography in 2007. Bob was preceded in death by his first wife Charlotte. His beloved parents as well; four brothers and one sister. Left to remember him is his loving and devoted wife Evelyn Collier, two sisters Mary Ann Campbell of Austin, Tx., and Inez Jones of Madison, Ga; his brother Cotton Collier of Waco, Tx., along with a host of extended family and friends. The family request that in liey of flowers, donations can be made in the name of Oscar “Bob” Collier to either the Association of Military Recruiters and Counselors (AMRAC) at 12241 Tilney Court, Woodbridge, VA 22192 or to Dallas Babptist University.
