Oscar Charles "O.C." McGaskey's Obituary
McGaskey, “O. C.” was born June 19, 1928 in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He was a faithful and most recent member of Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church and a longtime member of The Bethany Missionary Baptist Church. He worked for the City of Dallas as a mechanic for thirty-five years. For the next eighteen years he worked part time as a school crossing guard at Saint Monica Catholic School, providing a safe environment for children coming from and going to school. Due to failing heath, he was forced to leave this job, but continued to care for the children that were so much a part of his life. His wife of fifty-three years, Helen Kranson McGaskey, and one daughter, Quida Ann McGaskey, preceded him in death. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Hawkins and Cynthia McGaskey, one son, Oscar C. McGaskey, Jr. (Wendy), three grandchildren, Bryan Hawkins (Elizabeth), Robin Hawkins and Helena Katherine McGaskey, one great-grandchild, Charlotte Hawkins and two God grandchildren, Samuel and Nathaniel Berry. He also leaves to cherish his memory four sisters and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 30th, at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral service Tuesday, May 31st, at 10:00 a.m. in Restland Memorial Chapel.
