Oscar Lee Peters' Obituary
Oscar Lee Peters, 54, of Dallas, Texas, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, June 19, 2016. Oscar was the youngest of four, born to Joe and Thelma Peters, who predeceased him. Oscar grew up in the Dallas community of Hamilton Park and attended schools in the Richardson School District. He graduated from Lake Highlands High School in 1980. Oscar developed a strong work ethic and honed his culinary skills during his youth and years of working in the family soul food restaurant, the Cozy Corner. Following his parents’ retirement, from the restaurant business, Oscar changed careers. For over 20 years, he worked in the Dallas convention industry, and was a Journeyman for IUPAT/Local 756 union. During his years in the convention industry, Oscar was responsible for the installation of countless praiseworthy trade show displays, in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, as well as cities across the United States. Fun-loving and competitive, Oscar was an award winning domino player whose competition included, among others, State Senator Royce West and former Dallas mayor, Ron Kirk. A dapper dresser, Oscar was known to make a statement with his hats, attire and 1,000 watt smile. Oscar also enjoyed the relaxation provided by fishing, and was known to share his catches freely with family, friends and co-workers. Oscar found the love of his life and culinary equal in Diane Davis Peters. He demonstrated love to his family and friends, who relied on his guidance, support and open door to their home. Oscar leaves, to cherish his memory, wife, Diane; son, Christopher McGowen (Cassandra); grandchildren, Kashaela, Christopher, Jr., Aaliyah; Josiah; sister, Brenda Peters (John Chase); sister, Shirley Peters; brother, Joe Peters; extended family and numerous friends. The visitation for Oscar Peters will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Restland Funeral Home. The service for Oscar will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, June 27, 2016 at Hamilton Park United Methodist Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
