Oscar Lavearn Walker's Obituary
Walker, Oscar 85, arrived in heaven June 24, 2013. Oscar was born March 23, 1928 in Anderson County near Palestine, Texas and passed away June 24, 2013 at Methodist Dallas after suffering a massive stroke. He grew up in East Dallas, lived in Mesquite, Texas for many years and last resided in Duncanville, Texas. Oscar had a great love for his family. He was the happiest when he was surrounded by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family. His generosity and caring attitude was admired by all. Oscar was loved by many and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Everything Oscar did he did with love for all of those that he came in contact with. Oscar worked for the Ford Motor Company in Dallas until its closing. He then worked for the Dallas County Tax Office and then later became the Tax Assessor and Court Administrator for Balch Springs, Texas where he retired. He served in the Army during WWII and later in the Marine Core during the Korean War. Oscar was a member of the Mesquite Jaycees, Scottish Rite, Master Mason (fifty year member), he was a Hella Shriner (fifty-year member), and a Texas State Grandfather for the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Janie; daughters, Vicki Slaton and husband, Mike; Susan Bishop and husband, Kenny; grandchildren, Kevin Slaton and wife, Anna, Bryan Slaton, Courtney Kulcak and husband, Thomas, Brittney Gates and husband, Zach; great- grandchildren, Cade, Dillon, Ava and Easton. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many cherished friends. Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Myrtle Walker; sister, Verlie Clayton and husband, Wally; and many aunts and uncles. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 at Restland Funeral Home. Oscar’s celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 10:00 at Restland Wildwood Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, 2222 Wilborn Street, Dallas, Texas 75219 (include “In memory of Oscar Walker”) www.tsrh.org
