Otto Byron Norman's Obituary
June 26, 1914 – April 25, 2008 It is with a mixture of sorrow and joy that we say goodbye to our dad, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His gentle spirit was peacefully ushered into Heaven to join his beloved wife Velma of 67 years. The sorrow of losing him is replaced with the joy of knowing he is with his Savior Jesus Christ. Otto was born in Oklahoma City to Leslie Byron Norman and Ella Anna Pishny. He graduated from Classen High School in 1932 and the University of Oklahoma in 1938 with a B.S. in Business Administration. He also did graduate work at SMU in Personnel Administration. His love of music included the piano, saxophone, clarinet, and tympani, in a second career, until he retired from The Pacemakers Jazz Band at 90 years of age. He played tympani in the the University of Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra, Grand Prairie Symphony Orchestra and the Town North Concert Band. His professional career began in Oklahoma City in accounting, personnel, and management with the Oklahoma Natural Gas Company and Braniff Airways, and ended in Dallas with Dresser Industries, Continental Electronics and LTV. He spent his retirement years as a financial consultant. He has belonged to many professional and musical societies and won many awards. He was an avid golfer. He served as an Elder, Treasurer, and Clerk of Session at John Calvin Presbyterian Church in Dallas, and as an Elder at First Presbyterian Church in Mabank and First Presbyterian Church in Richardson. He is preceded in death by his wife, Velma, and daughter, Ann Norman Motta. Surviving him are his twins Gayle Norman Poirot and husband Rod, and Gary Philip Norman and wife Maria. Also survived by grandchildren, Carrie Day Hoagg, Connie Day McCourt, Daniel Norman Motta, Jason Lawrence Poirot, Jolie Gayle Poirot, Gregory Byron Norman, Christopher David Norman, AnaMarie Elise Norman, Zachary James Norman, 6 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm, Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be at 3:30 pm, Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Wildwood Chapel, Restland Memorial Park.
