Ouida Kathleen Johnson's Obituary
JOHNSON, OUIDA KATHLEEN, 89, of Dallas, TX passed away on Monday July 14, 2014. She was born in Malakoff, TX on September 3, 1924 to Dr. D.B. Owen and Willie Riddlesperger Owen. She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Van Johnson and sister, Janice Owen Miller of Athens, TX. She also had one daughter, Janice Madison, deceased, and two living grandsons, Michael Van Madison and Matthew Scott Madison. Ouida graduated as valedictorian of her class at Malakoff high school in 1942 and later graduated from North Texas State University in 1945. She was the first female to be elected president of her class at North Texas. She was a member of Kappa Theta Pi which later became known as Chi Omega, Mary Arden Club and The Green Jackets. She made lifetime friends at North Texas whom she dearly loved and maintained their friendship through the years. Ouida worked at General Electric after graduating college and is where she met her husband Van Johnson. Later they moved to Corpus Christi and then Edmonton Alberta Canada where they adopted their only daughter Janice. Ouida went on to a teaching career at the Children’s Center of the First Community Church in Dallas where she taught for 14 years and then went on to become the Director for the remainder of a 41 year career. Lastly Ouida will be dearly missed by her many friends and loving family. There will be a private interment for family members only. Memorial Service for Ouida will be at 11:00 AM Friday, July 18, 2014 at Northridge Presbyterian Church located at 6920 Bob-O-Link Drive Dallas TX, 75214. A reception will follow the memorial service at the church.
