Ouida Smith's Obituary
Ouida Novice Barnett Smith, 85, Dallas, Texas, passed away on September 19, 2024, surrounded by loving family.
Ouida was born on December 16, 1938, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas, the daughter of Twila Faith Barnett & Otis Leslie Barnett. Ouida was raised Baptist until she decided at the age of twelve to join Highland Park Methodist Church on her own. She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1957, then went on to Gulf Park Girls School in Gulfport Mississippi and eventually attended Southern Methodist University where she studied interior design.
Ouida married Ronald D. Smith, who she met while attending SMU, on April 26, 1958. Ouida & Ron had 5 children: Ronald II, Shannon, Todd, Gill & Sutton.
Ouida was a self-taught Seamstress. She worked for many years for the Dallas Metropolitan Ballot making costumes for the dancers. She later had her own business doing alterations. Ouida was very athletic and was the Soccer Commissioner for the Classic Soccer League in Dallas. She also Coached her daughter Sutton when she was young.
Ouida loved to bake all kinds of cookies, pies, and cakes. She also loved to workout, she even played on an adult women’s soccer team. She even went skydiving when she was fifty-one years old.
Remaining to cherish Ouida’s memory are sister, Quata; children, Todd, Shannon, Sutton; grandchildren, Jessica, Sharon, Sage, Mayan, Todd, Reece, Logan, Nicholas, Seth, Jacob, Jared & Rigg; great-grandchildren, Bradley.
She was preceded in death by her parents Otis & Twila Barnet, her husband Ronald D. Smith, her two sons Ronald Smith II and Gill Smith and her grandson Jared Smith.
A celebration of life will be held on September 27 at 10:30am at Restland Funeral Home [13005 S. Greenville Ave Dallas, TX 75243] in the Wildwood Chapel.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
