Pacheco Umphress Pyle's Obituary
Pacheco Umphress Pyle went to be with the Lord on May 14, 2022. She was born on February 10, 1935, in Dallas, Texas, and died at the age of 87 in Sachse, Texas. Her parents were Charles F. Umphress and Sarah Bradshaw Umphress. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Annice Umphress Renz, Jerry Umphress Nurre, and Sara Umphress Read. She is also survived by her husband of 66 years, William Eads Pyle, of Sachse, Texas; sons Paul Pyle and wife Nanette Smart Pyle of Beavercreek, Ohio; David Pyle and wife Tracy Lee (Kyle) Pyle of Wylie, Texas; Victor Pyle of Garland, Texas, nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
Pacheco grew up in Dallas, Texas, the youngest of four daughters, and met her husband, Bill, at North Texas State College in Denton, Texas. After graduation, she and Bill embarked on a 20-year-long journey across the country and around the world, following his career as an Air Force officer, until he retired in 1978. Since his retirement, they have primarily lived in the Dallas area.
Pacheco and Bill founded and served with Herrin House, a 21-bed residential psychiatric rehabilitation center in East Dallas. They also served in missionary work in Lindale, Texas, with Mercy Ships, a ministry of Youth With a Mission (YWAM). As part of that ministry, they worked with schools and missions in the Dominican Republic and Guatemala, as well as in South Africa. She loved to write and had myriad articles published, as well as Sunday School curriculum and several books. She also co-wrote several non-fiction works, most notably several books co-authored with Bud Schindler, Educating for Eternity, and several other books, highlighting the importance of Christian schools,
Pacheco taught high school English, Spanish, and Bible for several years at Dayton Christian School (DCS), in Dayton, Ohio and she was inducted into the inaugural class of DCS’s Hall of Honor. Two of her sons followed her into the teaching field, her eldest, Paul, teaching at DCS for forty years. Instrumental in helping found Buckingham North Christian School (now Firewheel Christian Academy), an outreach of First at Firewheel in Garland, Texas, her dedication to Christian education extends beyond her into the current generation and beyond. In her later years, she also ministered teaching English as a second language (ESL) to people from many nations.
A memorial service will be held at the Wildwood Chapel of Restland Memorial Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75243, at 2 o’clock on Tuesday, May 24th. There will be a family visitation at Wildwood from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm that same day (May 24th. There will be a reception in the Restland Events Center, across from the main chapel, immediately following the graveside. Memorial donations may be made to Young Life, P.O.
