Pamela Elaine Folks' Obituary
Pamela Elaine Parks Folks, 73, left this earth to be with the Lord on Oct 23, 2021. She passed peacefully in San Antonio, Texas with her husband and son by her side after years of suffering from Parkinson’s Disease. Pam was born in Dallas, Texas on Sept 3, 1948 to Murl and Marie Parks. She grew up in Dallas with her parents, her late sister Patricia, and a strong Christian faith. She attended Bryan Adams High School and went on to graduate in 1970 from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos with a BS degree in Education. Pamela married her steady high school and college boyfriend, Tommy Folks, in Dec 1970. After a short stay in College Station, Pam and Tommy moved to San Antonio in 1972 where Pam taught art at Hobby Middle School while Tommy was in graduate school there. They had one son, Nathaniel, born in 1976. Pam accomplished much in life as a Secondary Art Teacher, and an artist. One of her first jobs in 1972 was the accreditation of Hobby Middle School’s Art department in San Antonio and was invited to Austin to meet the Governor, Dolph Briscoe, for her outstanding achievement.
Pam often traveled with Tommy whose job in public health took him to many international places. They lived 10 years in Maryland and 20 years in Georgia. When they moved to Georgia in 1988, Pam became a very accomplished horticulturalist obtaining her Georgia Nurseryman’s License and Master Gardener credentials while working at the Agricultural Extension Service in Atlanta.
The two high school sweethearts lived a wonderful and glorious 50 years together. They had a wonderful year (2000) in Los Angeles when Tom was on Sabbatical and Nathan lived there working in the movie business. Pam loved art and ceramics and had a life full of creative painting. After moving back to San Antonio from Atlanta in 2008, she continued to be active in the local community center art and painting programs. After Tommy retired in 2013, the two of them had time to travel with great friends. Pam was also a passionate pet lover having many adoring dogs and cats that were always a comfort to her. Pam was very dedicated to her son and often traveled to California to be with him during his years in the film industry. Those were her happiest times. She is survived by her husband Dr Thomas M. Folks, son Nathaniel T. Folks and two Nieces, Lisa
Pennington and Heather Milligan. Pam will be laid to rest at Restland Memorial Funeral Home (13005 Greenville Ave. Dallas, TX 75243) Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021, at 10:00 am in the Wildwood Chapel. A short reception will be held after the funeral service (11:00 am) in the LM State Room at the same location. The memorial will also be available via live feed at www.RestlandFuneralHome.com Tributes can be given in her name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
