Parthene Florence Holstrom's Obituary
Parthene Sheetz Holstrom, 95, passed away Sunday, December 28,2014. Parthene was born December 12, 1919 in Beloit, Kansas to Pearl and Jay Duvall. They moved to Topeka, Kansas. Parthene was an avid sports enthusiast. She helped form local girl softball teams which competed statewide. Before she was 14 years of age, her softball team won several state championships. At 14 years of age, she and her team mates earned a trip to compete nationally at the famous Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois. Parthene graduated from Topeka High School. During high school she met and later married Jack Sheetz. While raising a family, she served the PT A on the Local, State and National levels in Kansas, Oklahoma and California and she held numerous positions including President of the California PTA. Parthene and Jack loved to participate in sports including, bridge, bowling,football, baseball and softball. At age 50, their sports passion turned to golf and they became members of Canyon Creek Country Club. Parthene was a member of Canyon Creek Country Club for over 45 years. While a member, she twice scored a hole in one. She served as President of the Texas Senior Women’s Golf Tournament and the Dallas Women’s Association. In 1996, Jack Sheetz preceded her in death. She later married Norris Holstrom; he preceded her in death in 2010. She was very blessed to have two wonderful husbands. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Thelma Carpenter; son-in-law, James Metcalf; and granddaughter Robin Sheetz. SURVIVORS: Her children, daughter, Jacquelyn Metcalf; son, James Sheetz and wife, Linda; son, William Sheetz and wife, Susan; six grandchildren, Kay Djoeandy, Michael Metcalf, Richard Sheetz, Jodi Lardner, Mark Metcalf and Aaron Sheetz; six great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews and her sister Larayne Hess. The visitation for Parthene Holstorm will be 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243 The Funeral for Parthene Holstrom will be held on Friday, January 16, 2015 in the Sanctuary of First Christian Church of Plano, 813 East 15th Street, Plano, Texas 75074 at 10:00am. Reception at Canyon Creek Country Club, 625 West Lookout Drive, Richardson, Texas 75080. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Topeka High School Historical Society or 1st Christian Church of Plano.
