Patricia Evelyn Aycock's Obituary
Patricia Evelyn Aycock passed away on January 17, 2017, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 93. She was born on November 8, 1923, in Buff Bay, Jamaica, the eldest daughter of William and Elsie Borrie. She met her husband, Joe Wilson Aycock, while he was stationed in Jamaica with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. They married in 1943 and she later returned with him to the U.S. Joe, her husband of nearly 55 years, preceded her in death in 1998, followed by her son, Michael Geoffrey, in 2002, and her sister, Evelyn Isaacs, in 2015. Patricia is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Michael Koeninger of Dallas; her granddaughter Crystal Costabile and husband Robert of Grand Prairie, Texas; one sister, Alannah Sinclaire, of Port Coquitlam, B.C., Canada; and many others in a large extended family. A talented artist, Patricia had resided in Dallas since 2000. Previous long-time residences included Tyler, Midland and Wichita Falls, Texas, where she attended university art classes and was an active member of the artistic community in those cities. She was accomplished in weaving, ceramics, painting, printmaking, jewelry-making, and metal and mixed media sculpture. She received numerous awards in local and regional art competitions, and her work was featured in one-woman shows in Wichita Falls and Tyler, Texas; and Shreveport, La. She was a co-founder of art cooperatives and galleries in Midland and Tyler. She continued creating artwork into her 90s. Patricia was an avid gardener and a lover of animals, nature, music, reading and cooking. She was an enthusiastic world traveler, spending her 65th birthday in China and her 73rd birthday in Bali. In Hawaii at age 75, she took her first helicopter ride and learned to snorkel. At the age of 90 she was still walking a mile each day. Her creative mind, her playful sense of humor, her love and loyalty to family and friends, and especially her zest for life will be missed by all who knew her. Patricia was a member of Greenland Hills United Methodist Church of Dallas (GHUMC), 5835 Penrose, Dallas, Texas 75206. Her memorial service will be held there at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Inurnment will be at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas at a later date. Memorial gifts may be made to GHUMC or the ASPCA.
