Patricia Dixon's Obituary
Dixon, Patricia Patricia Dixon was born January 20, 1924 in Evanston, Illinois and died on July 13, 2008 after battling breast cancer in Plano, Texas. Pat grew up in Illinois and Wisconsin and attended Northwest University as a drama major. Much to her mother’s dismay, she enlisted in the Marines during World War II and served in San Francisco. Pat never took off her Marine Corps necklace and was active in the Women Marines Association well into her 80s. Pat married Warren Field Dixon on September 15, 1947. A young doctor specializing in obstetrics, Warren brought Pat to the Dallas area in 1950 so that he could begin his residency at Methodist Hospital. They remained in the Dallas area and were married for 52 years until Warren’s death in 2000. Pat was a pioneer in the community theatre in the Dallas area. Her first role was as Mabel Crosswaithe in The Reluctant Debutante performed at the Knox Street Theatre in 1958. In 1959, she performed at the Margo Jones Theatre at Fair Park in The Heiress. During the 1960s and 1970s, she won several acting awards and appeared in plays presented at the Pearl Chappel Playhouse, Theater Three, Richardson Civic Theater, Theater 34, the Richardson Community Theater, The Greater Dallas Community Theater, and Dallas Repertory Theater. Her awards included the Pearl Chappel Award for best supporting actress in Come Back, Little Sheba, the RCT Award for ‘Best Actress’ for her role as Rosemary in Picnic, and the Community Theaters of Greater Dallas ‘Wally’ award for ‘Best Actress,’ also for her leading role in Picnic. One of her favorite roles was Blanche Dubois in Tennessee William’s Streetcar Named Desire performed at Richardson Community Theater which won her rave reviews. Pat also loved performing in many productions of the Gridiron Show sponsored by the Press Club of Dallas. Pat was able to visit many parts of the world through her job as a travel agent. She was a very social woman; parties at the Dixon house attracted an interesting mix of theater people, doctors, neighbors, and friends from across the country. A true dog lover, Pat’s household always included at least one dog, more often two or more. In her later years, she volunteered at Operation Kindness, a no-kill shelter for dogs and cats. Before her recent illness, Pat lived at Pestonwood Court in Plano Texas and enjoyed friendships and staff there. Pat’s family would like to thank the staff on the oncology floor in the Jackson Building at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas and the staff at Prestonwod Rehab and Nursing Center for the wonderful care and attention. Pat is survived by her three children and their families: daughter Debby Amis and her husband Steve Amis of Plano, Texas, grandson Brian Amis, his wife, Jordan Amis, and grandson, Charles Benton Amis of Houston, grandson Benjamin Amis of Seattle, WA; daughter, Pam Dixon, her husband Dan Eden, and granddaughters Rebecca Eden and Emilie Eden of Austin, Texas, and son, Warren Dixon, of Dallas, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 19th at 11:00 am at Restland’s Abbey Chapel. The family requests that donations, in lieu of flowers, be sent to Operation Kindness, 3201 Earhart Dr. in Carrollton, TX, 75006.
