Patricia Joan Jacobs' Obituary
Patricia Joan Davis Jacobs, a beloved speech pathologist, mentor, and friend passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025. Her long and wonderful life was dedicated to service, teaching, and helping others. Born on December 28, 1939 to John Robert (Bob) and Louise Wall Davis of Bessemer, Alabama and Graceville, Florida.
Throughout her life, Patty was an outgoing, independent, achievement oriented person. She graduated from Bessemer High School in 1957 where she participated in the Glee Club, the Drama Club, and the Thespians. She was also a member of the choir at First Baptist Church. She continued her academic pursuits at API, now Auburn University. Patty consistently committed herself to excellence in any endeavor. She made the Dean's List, sang in the Concert and A Cappella Choirs, participated in the Debate Club, and was selected as a Princess in the Christmas Court. After earning her degree in 1961 in Speech Therapy and English, she began her career with the Dallas Independent School District.
Patty's career as a Speech Pathologist was marked by her exceptional skill and unwavering commitment to helping others find their voice--both literally and figuratively. She earned a Master's degree from Texas Women's University in 1970. As a speech pathologist, she transformed countless lives through her expertise, patience, and compassion. One of her accomplishments included writing a book entitled A Language Development Program for Deprived Areas. Some of her other achievements include serving on the Grievance Committee for the State Bar of Texas and the Dallas Association for Professional Educators.
She retired in 2006 and enjoyed extensive travel and activities of all sorts with her many friends.
Beyond her career, Patty was a devoted member of numerous recovery groups including Al Anon and Families Anonymous. She was always willing to share her experience, strength, and hope with a new member. Her special blend of unvarnished truth and unwavering faith made her a trusted confidant to the families of addicts and alcoholics for decades.
Patty will be remembered not only for her professional accomplishments but also her ability to make others feel seen and valued. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother John R. Davis, Jr. and her son John Jeffrey (Jeff) Jacobs. She is survived by her granddaughter, Haley E. Jacobs of Princeton, Texas, her sister-in-law, Judy Davis of Chelsea, Alabama, niece, Genie Gibson (Larry) of Vestevia, Alabama, nephew, Brad Davis of Maplesville, Alabama, and niece, Kim Gowens (Ed) of Chelsea, Alabama. Her ashes will be interred at Restland Memorial Cemetery in Dallas.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, August 18 at 3:00 pm at Tradition Assisted Living, 5855 Milton Ave, Dallas, Texas 75206.
