Patricia Ann MaGouirk's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Patricia Ann Mauzy MaGouirk
June 1, 1938 – August 30, 2025
Patricia Ann Mauzy MaGouirk, affectionately known as Patty, was born on June 1, 1938, and passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025.
She attended Adamson High School in Dallas, Texas, where she met the love of her life, Merlin Ray MaGouirk “Buddy”, at Friendship Baptist Church. Buddy was also a student at Adamson, and the two quickly fell madly in love. They married on December 20, 1955, and from that day forward, Buddy remained the love of her life until her final breath.
Patty and Buddy traveled across the country while he served in the U.S. Navy, creating countless cherished memories along the way. Together, they raised four beautiful children: Steven Ray (1957), Gary Vincent (1958), Brenda Sue (1959), and Kevin Lee (1963).
After Buddy was discharged from the Navy, he and Patty moved to Dallas, Texas, where he began a career in insurance sales. Patty took on waitressing jobs at the Luau Room in Love Field Airport and the Tupanamba Restaurant nearby. It was Patty who encouraged Buddy to pursue an opportunity with Pizza Inn Inc., setting him on a new professional path.
The family first lived in Arcadia Park, later moved to Oak Cliff, and eventually settled in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas. Over time, Patty transitioned to a position at Bank of America, where she worked for more than 18 years until her retirement. She often spoke with pride about how much she enjoyed her job, and many of her coworkers became lifelong friends.
One of Patty’s most memorable—and humorous—moments came when she won a jalapeño-eating contest, outlasting all the so-called “tough guys.” She wore that victory like a badge of honor and never let anyone forget it
In retirement, Patty fully embraced life. She enrolled in college courses to learn about computers, made new friends, and enjoyed reconnecting with them long after the classes ended. One of her favorite pastimes was scouring estate sales and thrift shops for hidden treasures—always with someone in mind to gift them to.
Patty had a deep love for the arts and entertainment. She was an avid fan of beauty pageants, the Oscars, the Olympics (especially figure skating), and musical reality shows like American Idol, America’s Got Talent, The Masked Singer, Dancing with the Stars and The Kelly Clarkson Show. She never missed a football game—college or pro—and was especially devoted to her favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs, in particular, Quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Her adventurous spirit led her to many unforgettable experiences: traveling to Mexico with friends, attending the Super Bowl, seeing Elvis live in concert, and spending cherished afternoons at monthly luncheons with her best girlfriends from high school. She loved live music and supported her friends Ralph and Dave as they performed at local venues, especially the Greek Isle Restaurant in Dallas, where everyone knew her.
Patty also had a passion for great food—particularly New Mexican cuisine with green and red chili, pinto beans, and warm tortillas. But her all-time favorite spot was El Fenix Mexican Restuarant in Dallas.
Above all else, Patty was a kind, generous, and uplifting soul. She adored animals and was known for rescuing strays and giving them a loving home. Her heart was tender, and her love for her family ran deep—more than words could ever express.
In June 2025, Patty moved to Ohio to be closer to her sister. There, she met Phyllis, who quickly became her closest companion and best friend. The two were inseparable, sharing stories, laughter, and unforgettable moments.
Patty loved deeply and widely. While there are too many to name, if you were lucky enough to be loved by her, you knew it—you felt it in your heart.
Now, she watches over all of us as a guardian angel, wishing us peace, joy, and the very best that life can offer.
