Patricia M. Polk's Obituary
Patricia Ann Myers “Pat” Polk, 82, passed away January 16, 2020 at her Highland Springs home in Dallas, Texas. There will be a graveside service at Restland Cemetery in Dallas Friday, January 24, at 11 A.M..
Pat was born in Dallas December 8, 1937 to the late Ernest Lindley Myers and Vera Elizabeth Cook Myers. Pat had fond memories of growing up in University Park. She was graduated from Highland Park High School in 1955 and from Austin College in 1959. She earned a masters degree in medical illustration from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. The highlight of her medical illustration career was to work for renowned heart surgeon, Dr. Michael DeBakey in Houston, TX in the early 1960’s. For a few years in Austin she worked at the Steck Company and grew her family. Pat returned to Dallas with her two small children and jumped into the new field of data processing leading to a long, successful career as a systems analyst. Over the years she worked for Texas Instruments, Republic National Bank, Sun Oil, and Oryx. At each of these jobs she made friends with whom she continued to lunch for many years
Pat was an artist and an art lover. Her family and friends enjoyed her hospitality in the lovely home she created. She enjoyed travel and dinner-and-a-play with friends.
She was predeceased by her sister, Marybeth Dague, and by her former husband, Ed J. Polk. She is survived by their children, Susan Elaine Polk Adkins (husband, David) of Phoenix, AZ and Kevin Edward Polk (wife, Cristina) of Moraga, CA; by three grandchildren: Eddie Jack Adkins, Maxwell Gordon Polk, and Megan Patricia Polk; and by her brother, Ernest Lindley Myers, Jr. of Dallas.
Pat’s death is mourned by many good friends and family who enjoyed her quick wit, strength of spirit, generosity, and compassionate heart. She was admired for her bravery and good humor in facing the cruel loss of memory that is the mark of Alzheimer’s. Pat, “Tricia,” as her childhood family called her, was a good daughter, sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend. She was an unfailingly supportive and loving mother who will be deeply missed. The family encourages those who loved her to reach out to each other and celebrate Pat’s life in their reminiscing. Please, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
