Patrick Joseph Kain's Obituary
Pat Kain, 82, passed away at Prestonwood Nursing home after a lengthy battle with congestive heart failure. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Restland Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 13005 Greenville Avenue, with visitation starting 1 hour prior to service. Pat was born November 5, 1934 in Akron, OH to Robert and Justina Kain. His family moved to Annapolis, MO, where his father, Captain Kain, taught math at the naval academy. He spoke of many fond memories there with his brother and friends, who later became his step brothers and sisters. Because his father passed away when Pat was 13, he and his brother not only helped to support there mother, but also put themselves through college. Pat and his brother, Bob taught swimming lessons and were life guards at the Highland Park pool. Pat also worked for Doak Walker. He attended Highland Park High School and went off to college to run track at the University of Texas for two years, where he was also a member of the Phi Delta fraternity. He spent his last two years of college at SMU and swam on the swim team for the Mustangs. Pat married Barbara Tate of Highland Park in 1956 and joined the Marines. They were stationed in Quantico, VA and Oceanside, CA. Captain Kain made many life long friends, most of whom still called him from all areas of the country until his last days. After four years in the Marines, Pat joined Aetna Life Insurance, where he became Vice President over the Life and Causality Department. Pat and his family moved to Richardson, TX in 1972, where he started Pat Kain & Associates Life Insurance Co. Pat had a teachers heart and spent many years helping children learn English at the O’Roberts Elementary School in Dallas. He also continued to teach swimming at the retirement village he lived in for some time. Pat was so proud of his Irish/English heritage and was a plethora of knowledgeable on his family history. Pat always gave of himself, never expecting anything in return- he adored his family and was always there for them. As the song says “you’re a good, good, father”, he was the best, father, husband, and grandfather. Pat was a man who loved God, his faith and unconditional love was a testament to all who knew him. There are truly not enough words to glorify this amazing man. He will forever be in our hearts and deeply missed until we are with him eternally. Thank you to Dr. Michael Oh, a truly caring surgeon, for performing the Kyphoplasty on his back, the loving staff at Prestonwood Rehab and the staff at the Village of Mapleshade for taking such good care of our mother. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Titus Kain and Justina Morris Kain; and brother, Bob Kain. Pat is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara Kain; son Joe Kain and wife, Arleen; daughter, Laura Schwartz and husband, Jerry; grandchildren, Dr. Joshua Kain, Jake Kain, David Schwartz and wife, Shana, Misty Kelton and husband, Shannon; great grandchildren, Haylee and Hilaree Schwartz, Jordan and Scotty Kelton.
