Patrick Anthony Lopez's Obituary
"It is no longer I who lives, but Christ who lives in me." - Galatians 2:20-21
Patrick Anthony Lopez joined his parents, J.G. Lopez and Olga Everett Lopez, in paradise on December 9, 2022, at the age of 57. Patrick was born January 30, 1965, and grew up in Garland, Texas where he attended Good Shephard Catholic School, O'Bannon Middle School, and graduated from South Garland High School in 1983.
He went on to attend Southwest Texas University (Texas State) in San Marcos and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance, which would launch a successful sales career achieving multiple top honors and awards. The apple did not fall far from the tree as it was evident that Patrick inherited his father's gift for gab and charm and truly could sell anything, even snow to Eskimos. It was a true gift to witness Patrick in his element. He had such an unforgettable voice, laugh and talent. It was a beautiful thing to witness how brightly he shined with his many talents.
As a young man, Patrick excelled in academics but even more as an athlete. Patrick excelled in football, basketball, track, baseball, and soccer. He showed his commitment as captain of the team and missing a game was never an option. Soccer, however, was his greatest passion according to those close to him. He played for the Gunners 65' in Dallas for several years and led the team to some of the largest invitational tournaments in North America, including Mexico and Canada. His leadership and skills earned him an Allstar Honors in every sport in every level. After college, Patrick enjoyed competitive mountain biking, scuba-diving, skiing, but mostly fishing. If he had any spare time, you would find him on the water where he experienced some of his greatest peace and Joy.
After moving back to Corpus Christi in 2013, Patrick found joy in coaching his nieces and nephews' soccer teams where Coach Patrick became a staple on the pitch. He would instill a love for the sport but also a culture for soccer that so many kids and parents could take pride in… something that was not common in Corpus Christi. He always managed to coach even the most stressful games without spilling a single drop of coffee - a skill remembered by all. Soccer Saturday was his biggest blessing. He was able to spend time with his nieces and nephews and help them to master the art of soccer. His nieces and nephews will cherish these memories for the rest of their lives. Throughout his adventurous life, Patrick gave his all-time best. For all that knew him, losing was not an option. With his passion, commitment and perseverance, Patrick helped his teams succeed on and off the field. These teams were like family to him; the girls on the team even affectionately referred to him as "Uncle Pat", which was an honor that he loved!
Patrick married the love of his life, Paula Winslow, in 2016 and was overjoyed to become stepfather to Ashley, Abby, and Austin. Patrick and Paula made their home in Dallas and loved entertaining and traveling. He loved his wife very much and was very proud of his stepchildren. Patrick lit up a room when discussing the accomplishments of his family and the life that they had built together.
Patrick was a life-long learner - a passion that earned him the nickname "the Fact Man." And he loved to share his knowledge with anyone around him. He especially loved the Bible and was well-versed in scripture. Much like the talents he inherited from his father, he inherited love from his dear Mother - she loved life, God, family, and friends. He was a "Mama's boy" that undoubtably loved as strongly as she did. He was always the first to show up and the last to leave for someone in need. If you were fortunate enough to experience a Patrick Lopez hug, count your blessings. Not only did you experience the sincerest embrace imaginable, but you could rest assure knowing he was always the last to let go. This was his way of saying, "not only do I love you, but I've got you too."
Patrick is survived by his wife Paula Winslow, his stepchildren Ashley Vallejo (Brandon), Abby Paschal (Blake), Austin Winslow, his sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Dan Mosley, his brother and sister-in-law John Michael and Kimberley Lopez, and his nieces and nephews Viviana Olga Lopez, John Everett Lopez, Ava Jane Lopez, Genavieve Marie Lopez, and Luke Marcus Lopez and stepmother Sharon Lopez. He is reunited with his parents Olga Everett Lopez and Juan G. Lopez in paradise.
Patrick's family has planned a visitation in the chapel of Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Service on Yorktown on Thursday December 15, 2022, at 5:00 pm, with a Rosary to be said at 6:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be at SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church on Friday December 16, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. His Committal Service will be at Restland Cemetery in the Memorial Chapel, followed by burial, in Dallas on Monday December 19, 2022, at 2:00 p.m.
