Patsy Cheney Arnold's Obituary
Patsy Jean Cheney Arnold, 91, of McKinney, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 1, 2024. Patsy was born on June 26, 1933, in Spartanburg, South Carolina to Donald Richard Cheney and Edna Emily Littlejohn Cheney. She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant daughter, Kathryn Elizabeth Arnold and her brother, Donald Richard Cheney, Jr.
Patsy spent her formative years in Spartanburg attending school, participating in activities at First Baptist Church and spending summers at Camp Pinnacle. She always enjoyed keeping company with her many friends as well as her large extended family. Upon graduating from Spartanburg High School in 1951 she attended Converse College earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1956.
She was married to Fred (Buddy) Arnold and was first and foremost a homemaker who was devoted to her three children. The family moved from Spartanburg in 1958 and headed west, first residing in Georgia, then moving to Alabama and ultimately settling in Dallas, Texas in 1966. Patsy was a devoted friend to her neighbors everywhere she lived. She loved having morning coffee and visiting with her friends in a quiet home setting.
Patsy’s many interests included antique clocks, model trains, sewing, working jigsaw puzzles and playing bridge. She also enjoyed traveling to the Smoky Mountains and back home to South Carolina. She held several jobs throughout her lifetime, working at The Yarn Barrel, Sterling Jewelry, and American States Insurance Company. In addition, she was an active member of Lake Highlands United Methodist Church.
Patsy is survived by her children: daughter Pamela Bassel and husband Dabney of Fort Worth, daughter Jeannie Barrett and husband Brian of College Station, and son Liles Arnold and wife Susan of McKinney. She is survived by nine grandchildren: Ashley Ming and husband Tim, Jesse Arnold and wife Christina, Joel Arnold, Christopher Arnold, Dallas Varner and husband Trey, Allison Wilson and husband Matthew, Kyle Barrett and wife Irene, Lindsey Mudge and husband Chris, and Katherine Bassel and husband Tim Cernak. She leaves behind twenty-six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Wallace Hood Cheney and wife Gloria of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Wildwood Chapel at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. A memorial service officiated by Reverend Liles Arnold will commence at 10:30 a.m., immediately followed by a graveside service.
