Patsy Newman Hargrave Crick's Obituary
Patsy Newman Hargrave Crick of Plano, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved family on Monday, September 21, 2020, after a three-year struggle with congestive heart failure.
She was born to Edward Newman and Elsie Krebs on July 14, 1939, in San Antonio, Texas.
Patsy is survived by her husband, Robert Crick, of Cumming, Georgia, her two daughters, Lisa Murphy and her husband Brian, of San Antonio, Texas, Karin Saucedo and her husband Roberto, of Allen, Texas, and her son, Mark Hargrave and his wife Sharilyn, of Palmer, Alaska. Patsy is also survived by her two brothers, John Newman and Edward “Butch” Newman, both of San Antonio, Texas, and her former spouse, O.T. Hargrave of Dallas, Texas, who blessed her with three wonderful children. Patsy leaves behind a multitude of Newman, Hargrave and Crick family members and friends who will miss her greatly.
Patsy was actively involved in church from her early childhood at Revival Temple in San Antonio, to her last days at Gateway Community Church in Wylie. She loved singing in the choir, helping with children’s musical dramas at church and considered this part of her life’s ministry. Because of her heritage and strong belief in the Great Commission, Patsy supported numerous mission organizations her entire life.
The Word of God was the driving force of Patsy’s strong faith. Patsy and Bob would finish each day with extended prayers and scripture together. This routine comforted her and strengthened their relationship with each other, as well as their relationships with others. As she began to accept that the end was near, she wanted to be covered more and more in the Word of God each day.
Patsy had a long, successful career at United American Insurance Company in the Actuarial Department, retiring as Assistant Vice President in 2006. Many of her colleagues were more than co-workers to her, and over the years deep, life-long, meaningful friendships developed, which remained in place up to her passing.
Patsy loved to travel and her favorite spot in the world was Bavaria. She visited the Swiss Alps dozens and dozens of times with family and friends. If you were lucky enough to go with her on one of these trips, you would absolutely be making plans to return before you had even left. Her excitement was just that contagious. She would often joke that God had made those mountains just for her.
Another one of the greatest loves in Patsy’s life was her precious Darby, a Jack Russell Terrier who was her constant companion and “fourth child” for almost fourteen years. Her heart broke when he crossed over the Rainbow Bridge and from that moment on, Patsy looked forward to the day when she would be reunited with him in Heaven.
Patsy was passionate about her interests and hobbies and passed that enthusiasm down to her children. As Lisa, Mark and Karin grew older, she took enormous pride in watching the seeds that she had planted in each of her young kids mix with their individual personalities, and then develop into unique passions of their own.
Patsy was first a homemaker and no one took more pride in the beauty and taste of Lisa’s sourdough bread loaves than Patsy did. Earlier this year, they even spent a Saturday morning on the phone baking Irish Soda Bread together in their San Antonio and Plano kitchens.
Patsy loved Jesus so one of her biggest joys came when Mark was called to full time ministry and entered the mission field. Inspired by one of Mark’s mission trips to Africa, Patsy “adopted” Jillian, a young girl from Kenya. Jillian loved to draw and Patsy would send art supplies with Mark to give to her on each trip.
Patsy cared deeply for all animals, particularly her beloved Darby, with a fierce, unconditional and unlimited love. She laughed, loved and cried hard with Karin over the joys and heartbreaks of Karin’s own fur babies as well as all the other animals that Karin champions.
