Patsy Ruth Griggs' Obituary
Patsy Ruth Griggs was born on May 12, 1940 in Fort Worth, Texas to Count T. Brown and Mattie Brown.
She graduated from I.M. Terrell High School in 1957. She attended Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Patsy was the first African American woman admitted to the Texas Christian University (TCU) Nursing School in Fort Worth, Texas, where she attained a Bachelor of Nursing degree.
She accepted Christ as her personal savior and was baptized at the Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church. Her current church family is Fairview Missionary Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, where she served in the choir and the Nursing ministry.
She married Willie E Griggs in 1967 and lived in Los Alamos, New Mexico, and Washington D.C., and moved to what became her family’s adopted home - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1972.
Pasty worked as Registered Nurse at Presbyterian Hospital, Oklahoma City, before taking the long-time mantle of School Nurse for Northeast High School primarily.
Preceding her in death and awaiting her in heaven are her mother, father, older brother Don Brown, her son Brian Griggs, and her loving husband Willie E. Griggs, and her longtime companion Herman Murray.
Patsy leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted daughter Jackie (Clarence) Caldwell of Dallas, Texas, her son Will Griggs of Los Angeles, California, her brother Bill (Jo Anne) Brown of Houston, Texas,
She was blessed with 4 grandchildren: Clarence III (Trey) and Joshua Caldwell of Richardson, Texas, and Amir and Nia Griggs of Los Angeles, California.
Also celebrating her life are four nieces, Dawn (Michael) Benjamin and Angela Tennyson of Houston, Texas and Estrella Griggs and Renee Griggs of Fort Worth Texas, and additionally three nephews, Darren Brown of Houston, Texas and Michael Wayne Griggs and Darryl DeWayne Griggs of Ft. Worth, Texas. She will also be missed by a host of great nieces and nephews, and all of her close relatives and special friends.
