Patsy Margaret Haydon Ottmers' Obituary
Patsy Margaret Haydon Ottmers was born on January 20, 1932 to Raymond and Louise Haydon in Weatherford, Texas. She grew up on Papa and Mama Haydon’s farm with her 2 brothers around Dimmit-Earth area. She gathered eggs at 3 years old a chore she wasn’t particularly fond of and stood on a stool to wash dishes. She attended high school in Weatherford , Tx. then on to Texas Tech University majoring in home economics education. She met Frank Ottmers who was her brother, Milburn’s roommate, both playing Red Raider scholarship football. One of the things that impressed her about Frank was that every Sunday regardless of the late hour after a Saturday football game, he would be in a suit and tie at every Sunday morning church services. They married in 1950, started their family in 1952 with Lyndy then Bryan in 1954 and then the blessed surprise with Brent in 1966. Pat was raised Baptist and Frank a Lutheran so they merged into Methodism where they both served in 4 Methodist churches due to job transfers while working for Shell Oil Company. The family joined Highland Park United Methodist Church ( HPUMC ) in 1969.Pat was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend. She loved Home Making with homemade meals. Her legacy modeled for a lifetime would be to Love Jesus Christ with all your heart, obey His Word, do good to others, sing a song of praise , thank the Lord for all His blessings, live like you’re loved by the Lord, guard your heart and focus on Him daily. Remember God loves you and so do I. Pat has faithfully served the Lord and His church her entire lifetime. In music ministry she played piano and organ and sang in the choir. In education ministry , taught Sunday school and helped start classes of various age groups. She served in prayer ministry helping establish the Prayer Tower at HPUMC. She served in women ministry as President of United Methodist Women and circle leadership. She served in evangelism ministry establishing the University Ministry with Rev. Billy Boyd Smith and Chuck Cox. She also served on a board at Asbury Seminary for the purpose of establishing seats of evangelism in seminaries. Her life exemplified being an ambassador for Christ. There was never a question of her unswerving priorities- faith in Jesus Christ, family, friends and other people. She was a gracious lady, who could elicit a person’s history or interests in the first few minutes of meeting, with sincere interest. Our mother had such a cheerful spirit, thoughtful of others in so many ways. She reached out to people with a hand of welcome everywhere with a smile, a how are you today greeting whether at the grocery store, policemen, visitors at church, neighbors. She rejoiced with you when you rejoiced and wept when you wept. As we called people to let them know of Mother’s passing everyone said how much she would be missed and how much she had brightened their day with her cheerful spirit and voice. The joy of the Lord was her strength. We have a legacy from our parents to move us forward. Just as they shared their love for the Lord for a lifetime we can honor our parents by going forth as Jesus commands ” Love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. And love our neighbor as ourselves.” They would sing “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand. “Pat is survived by her daughter Lyndy Speckels of North Little Rock, AR; her sons, Bryan Ottmers (Sandy Ottmers) of Boerne, TX and Brent Ottmers (Imelda Ottmers) of Waxahachie, TX; grandchildren Scott Speckels of Maumelle, AR and Sean Speckels (Elyse Speckels) of N.
