Paul Tartaglia Jr.'s Obituary
Paul Tartaglia, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather (“Pop-Pop”), great-grandfather, and friend to all who knew him, went home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2020. Paul was born on June 8, 1934, in New York, New York.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Lena (Cuccurullo) and Paul Tartaglia; brother Russ Tartaglia; sisters Anne Ferrara, Josephine Carieri, and Marian Fioccola. He is survived by Dena Shipp Tartaglia, his wife of 61 years; son Paul Edward Tartaglia and his wife, Jo Anne, and grandchildren Alex and Sam Tartaglia; daughter Suzanna and her husband Edwin P. Voss, Jr., and grandchildren E. Price Voss, III, and his wife Sarah; Bonner and her husband Alex LaBarba; Havilland Voss; and great-grandson, Louis LaBarba. Paul is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Paul graduated from Lafayette High School in Brooklyn, New York, and later served honorably in the U.S. Army. While in active duty, he married Dena Faye Shipp in Chicago, Illinois. Paul completed his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree at The University of Texas at Arlington while working at the Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), where he spent most of his career as a systems analyst until retiring in 1989.
In retirement, Paul flourished. He continued his active involvement at Northwest Bible Church and enjoyed his men’s Bible study group throughout his life. Paul loved playing on the Metroplex Senior Adult Softball League team, the “Farmers Branch Codgers,” and earned the nickname “Wheels” for being the fastest runner on the team. His greatest and most cherished role, however, was as a devoted husband, in later years serving lovingly and selflessly as caregiver to his wife, and devoted family man. He could often be found at son, Paul’s, and daughter, Suzanna’s, houses fixing anything, doing home improvement projects, building whatever needed building, teaching grandkids to bike and skip rocks, playing all kinds of board games, attending grandchildren’s activities and events, and generally loving on and helping every family member in the unique ways that he could bless them through selfless acts of service. He loved Jesus, and he displayed that love by doing good to others, living with integrity, serving with no expectation in return, and being kind and humble-hearted.
The visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2020, at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243. A private family burial service will be held at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. A celebration of Paul’s life will be held at a later date.
If desired, and in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to: Northwest Bible Church Missions Fund, 8505 Douglas Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75225, or the charity of your choice.
Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
