Pearl Beatrice Struthers' Obituary
Struthers, Pearl Beatrice, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend entered heaven on Thursday March 11, 2010. Born October 4, 1919 to Mary and Joe Brooks, she was raised in Pilot Point, Texas by Mr. and Mrs. D’Troy Peters. Pearl graduated from Texas Women’s University, Denton Texas in 1940. She received Physical Therapy training at Brooke General Hospital in San Antonio, TX during the 2nd WW and served as 1st Lt. in the Army Medical Corps at Bushnell General Hospital in Brigham City, Utah and the 4th General Hospital in Manila, Philippines. During Pearl’s Physical Therapy career she help start the P.T.dept. for Dallas Medical and Surgical Clinic, and later was supervisor of acute care P.T.dept. of Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas from 1972 unil 1982. It was during this training and service that “Brooksie” met her life time best friend, Miriam “Johnny” Bruton of Dallas Tx. Following the war, Pearl married Dr. Russell B. Graham in 1949 and is survived by three of their four children: son Bob Graham of Dallas; daughter Cathy LaRoche and her husband, Terrel LaRoche and their sons Graham and Kyle; and son Paul Graham and his children Julie and Matt. She was predeceased by her husband and one son, Walter Graham. Pearl married Donald K. Struthers in 1984. The couple enjoyed extensive world travel and wonderful companionship until he deceased in 1998. Pearl is survived by three step-sons; Richard, Roger, and Kenyon Struthers and their families. Pearl was active in the Spring Vally Methodist Church of Dallas in the Beacon Sunday School Class and the Women’s Auxiliary, including the craft group. She also was a Girl Scout Troop organizer and leader at Spring Valley Elementary from 1964 to 1969. Pearl lived life to the fullest. Her example of grace and strength in the face of personal trials will be an inspiration to her family and loved ones throughout our lives.
