Peggy L. Elkin's Obituary
ELKIN, PEGGY L. was born on September 5, 1925 in Dallas, TX to Robert E. Elkin and Rosa Ella Mayfield. She passed away on Friday, December 7, 2012. She was the last survivor of five children in the family. She was preceded in death by her mother, her father, her brothers, Pruett, George, and Robert Jr., and one sister, Frances S. Rizer. She is survived by her nieces, Patsy L. Watson, Betty B. Bitten, and Jean Rizer, widow of nephew, Fletcher O. Rizer, and Ruthe and Stanley Ritchie of Denton, and grand nieces, Brenda Dial and husband, Roger of Wylie, and Beverly Stokes and husband, Tim from Oklahoma, and many other grand nieces and nephews. Although she had no children of her own, she tended to all of her flock as the last matriarch of the Elkin family. Peggy was educated in Dallas and graduated from the Hockaday School, and SMU. She lived and worked for a time in Tyler, TX doing advertising and selling insurance before returning to Dallas when her parents became ill and died. Her father founded Dallas Coffee and Tea Company in Dallas when Peggy was a child, and ran it until his death when the company was passed on to Peggy, Robert Jr., and Frances Rizer. It was then operated by Peggy and nephew, Fletcher Rizer, Jr. until the company was sold to American Produce. Peggy was an excellent golfer and played frequently at Prestonwood and Brookhaven Country Clubs. She also delved into real estate and owned and managed many rent houses with her partner, Helen Moore, until she passed away in January of this year. Since then, Peggy has not been well enough to participate in the activities she loved, due to weakness from her heart condition. But she didn’t give up easily and lived alone and was very independent to the end, thanks to Betty Rawling, Keisha Cole, and her loving neighbors who have been so helpful to her this past year. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Restland Funeral Home. Stateroom service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 12, 2012 also at Restland.
