Peggye L. Banvard's Obituary
On May 15, 2015, Peggye Layfield Banvard passed away at her Dallas home surrounded by family. Born in 1929 in Decatur, Texas, to Eugene and Lottie Layfield, Peggye grew up valuing hard work, honesty and selflessness that were common to rural Texas families of her generation. Peggye graduated from Decatur Baptist College in 1947 and went to work for UpJohn in Dallas. In 1952, she married Robert Eugene Banvard; they raised two daughters, Carla Banvard Simons and Patricia Banvard Hattan and resided in several different states until she and Bob settled back in Dallas in 1979. For over 30 years, Peggye was very involved with Church of the Ascension, serving on altar guild and church committees, and helping to found the church’s Pantry to feed local families in need. She enjoyed playing Bridge, doing cross-stitch and hosting family gatherings. Peggye was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 44 years. Peggye is survived by her loving sisters, Norma Mecaskey and Bobbye Dathe, both residing in Dallas; both her daughters, Carla (Bedford, TX) and Patti (Scottsdale, AZ); son-in-law Richard Hattan; grandchildren Justin Simons (and his wife, Ashley), Jessica Christensen (and her husband, Scott), Matthew Simons (and his wife, Sami), and Paul Hattan; five great-grandchildren (Alexander, Carter, Benjamin, Mason and Emma); nieces Cindy Lintjer, Karen Allen, Nicke Hetzel and nephew, Dan Dathe, and their loving spouses. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Church of the Ascension, 8787 Greenville Ave, Dallas TX 75243, or your favorite charity. A graveside service will be held for family only, followed by a public memorial service at 11:00am, Tuesday, May 19, at Church of the Ascension. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75238 at Restland Road.
