Pen Jean Lee's Obituary
Pen Jean Lee passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025 at 9:51pm at his home in Dallas, Tx. He was surrounded by his son, daughter, and close family and friends. He was born on August 24, 1948 in Beijing, China before moving to MeiYan County, Hubei Provence where he lived until 1949. His family then moved to Taipei, Taiwan.
Following in his father’s footsteps, he studied to be a part of the military police force at Fu Hsing Kang College, National Defense University before graduating in 1970. After 5 years of service in the Navy, he retired in 1975 as a ranking Lieutenant.
He married his late wife Hsiao Chen (Tammy) on April 28, 1982 at the age of 34, then moved to the United States in August that same year. After arriving in Dallas, Texas, Pen Jean worked multiple jobs to support his wife and family all while applying for U.S. citizenship, which he and Hsiao Chen obtained in 1991. To this union were born Edward and Tiffany Lee.
Pen Jean was an active leader of the Dallas Chinese Community Center for many years and enjoyed helping his community in any way he could. For over 12 years he served as treasurer to Hai Hwa Overseas Chinese School which served its students every Sunday.
Pen Jean especially enjoyed traveling, good food, and being surrounded by loved ones. Even when he was suffering through chemotherapy, he was often found out at restaurants with family and friends. His resilience and spirit was shown through his determination to travel. Between his chemotherapy and radiation treatments he was not only able to make it to multiple states across the U.S., but multiple countries across the world including Taiwan and Japan. He was an inspiration to all who knew him.
All whose lives he touched, will miss him greatly. His memory will be cherished by his loving daughter, Tiffany Lee, son-in-law, Joshua Sanders, son, Edward Lee, daughter-in-law, Katie Lee, grandchildren, Addison, Austin, and Ainsley Lee, brother, Penway Li, sister-in-law, Shiela Li, sister, Penyen Li, brother-in-law David Mork, and sister-in-law Mimi Chang.
