Perry Lamar Slack's Obituary
Perry Lamar Slack passed away Friday, February 5, at his home in Dallas. Perry was born in Childress, Texas July 25, 1929, but his family soon moved to Denton where Perry grew up, graduating from Denton High (where he was dubbed “Slick” for his football moves) and then from North Texas State University. In 1951, he married Beverly Coder of Fort Worth, and left Denton to follow various job opportunities — including a stint in the Navy and a year as a high-school shop teacher — to support his wife and new family. Although Perry settled in Dallas to raise his own family, and later moved to Kokomo, Indiana, he always considered Denton his home. Following a successful career as salesman and manager for PPG Industries, Perry returned to Denton with his wife to enjoy his retirement years. At heart Perry was always a family man, a loving and devoted husband and father, attentive brother, and beloved “Uncle Bubba” to his nieces and nephew and their children. Perry was an enthusiast, a hard worker with a gift for enjoying life, delighting in many simple pleasures –the fascination of nature and wildlife, the charm of small children, a family gathering or a chat with an interesting stranger on a plane. Friendly and sociable, he especially enjoyed teaching and helping others. In the 60s, Perry became fascinated with his camera and darkroom, honing his craft with patience and persistence to become an award-winning amateur photographer. He became a home computer aficionado when the technology was new, and later volunteered teaching computer classes at the Denton Library. Perry was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Coder Slack; parents, Fred T. Slack and Ruth M. Warren; and brother, Carl Slack. He is survived by son, David Slack; daughter, C.J. Bain and partner Lee T. Ward; sister, Nancy Chambers and husband John; nieces, Lynn Collins, Lou Ellen Clark, and Jane Conkling; great nieces, Lisa Beckman and Kimberly Hodges; great-nephew, Jason Hodges; great- great niece, Kayla Beckman; great- great nephew, Brendan Oonk. Service will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 10:30 AM at The Abbey Chapel at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM- 12:00 PM after the Service.
