Peter Weldon Baldwin's Obituary
Devoted church, civic, and business leader and loving family man, Peter Weldon Baldwin died Monday Sept 16, 2019 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. His family will not forget the values he personified: faith, integrity, perseverance in times of challenge, enthusiasm, creativity and love for his family and community.Born July 22,1930 in Detroit Michigan to George and Muriel Baldwin, he graduated from Highland Park High School in 1948. He then attended and graduated from UT Austin where he met the love of his life Teeka Long Baldwin.After a short time in sales at Dr Pepper in St Louis, he began his real estate career with Hudson and Hudson, learning how to rely on the synergy and mutual trust of bankers, developers, brokers, architects and contractors. Soon he started his own brokerage company, The Baldwin Company, and later he co-founded Baldwin-Harris Company, a development company. He devoted significant effort in his profession as evidenced by his serving as President of The Greater Dallas Board of Realtors, and national President of The Society of Industrial and Office Realtors, SIOR, a Global Commercial Real Estate Association.Pete’s commitment to his faith and community involvement was extensive. He served as an elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church, a trustee of Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation and Chairman of Texas Presbyterian Foundation. He was Chairman of the Greater Dallas Community Relations Commission, Commissioner of the Dallas Housing Authority, President of the Community Council, on the board of DART, Chair of the $172 million City of Dallas Capital Bond Campaign in 1972, Director of Dallas County Community College Foundation, Chairman of the North Texas Commission, Chair of North Texas Broadcasting Co., KERA, on the board of the Public Radio Capital Corporation, on the board of the American Red Cross and the Chairman of Schreiner University. He was President of the Preston Trails Golf Club and a sixty-two year member and past president of The Salesmanship Club of Dallas. He was also a pilot and avid hunter and fisherman.Hard to believe, but he was also a loving family man and kept his family together through many family vacations and adventures. He is survived by his spouse of 67 years Teeka, his sister Antoinette (Toni) and her husband Robert Cammack, and his brother in law Rev. Dr.Flynn V Long, Jr. and his wife Kay. Also, by his four children and (respective spouses) Blair Baldwin Hudson, George (Mary) Baldwin, Sam Baldwin, Tom (Felicia) Baldwin. And his 10 grandchildren Jenny (Jonas) Lord, Nora (Will) Clark, Caitlyn (Mike) Fantl, Peter (Amy) Baldwin, Andrew (Jenna) Hudson, Benton (Leah) Baldwin, Alex Baldwin, Kai Baldwin, Spence Baldwin, and Paul Baldwin. As well as several nieces and nephews and 7, soon to be 8 great grandchildren.The family would like to thank the faithful caregivers of Caruth Haven Court and especially Pastor Simpson Campbell and Suad Bahsoon who all made his life as pleasant as possible through his battle with Alzheimer’s.A memorial service will take place Monday September 23rd at 1:00pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to the Salesmanship Club of Dallas or the charity of your choice.
