Pheobe Ellis' Obituary
Ellis, Pheobe affectionately known as “Nana” or “Aunt Pheobe” to many, departed this life at 5:55 PM, on August 21, 2013. Pheobe was a true centurion having attained the age of 101 years of age. She was born to Hutch and Hattie Taylor on November 12, 1911 and lived a full and vibrant life. She was a native of Rosebud, Texas where she grew up along with her siblings Rosie, Mary, Frank, Eva and Ann of which she was the last survivor. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and joined Independent Baptist Church in Rosebud, Texas. Pheobe relocated to Garland, Texas and moved her church membership to Sims Chapel where she served as a dedicated usher as well as proactively offering her talents and skills to various church events. She met and married her husband Gus Ellis, a military veteran. To that union, two children were born. Pheobe was a proud caregiver, domestic engineer, and mid-wife who helped deliver several babies. She was an adventurous soul who enjoyed traveling, cooking, scrapbooking, gardening, and opening her heart and home to those in need. She was full of wisdom, taking every opportunity to pass on her life experiences and the importance of education, despite only having an opportunity to complete the second grade herself. She made so many sacrifices, so future generations could advance and prosper. Pheobe witnessed Women’s Suffrage, The Great Depression, The Civil Rights Movement, The Age of Technology, and The First-elected African American President of the United States Barack Obama all in her lifetime. Pheobe was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and their two infants; and her siblings. She leaves to cherish her memory a host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, other relatives, and friends.
