Phil Norris Long's Obituary
LONG, PHIL NORRIS 74, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013 while on vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida. Phil was born October 14, 1938 to Chester and Thelma Long in Lewisburg, Kansas, the oldest of 4 children. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1956. Phil went to Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. He met his beautiful bride, Mary V. Clark, and they married in 1964 in Abilene, Texas. Their adventure began with a wonderful trip to Carlsbad Caverns and Hawaii. In 1969 Phil began a long career in the Defense industry, working on such projects as Harpoon and the Patriot Missiles. The company he worked for was acquired giving him more than 35 years in the industry until he retired in 2012. Through his years, Phil was not just a Dad but he was a soccer coach, a referee, a commissioner and spectator at all of his kid’s events. Phil loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was always working around the house on special projects, helping his kids out with their projects and going on adventures to see new parts of the world that he had not seen yet. Phil is survived by his son Glen; daughter, Elke; grandchildren, Gina, Desiree, Jessica,Mariah, Anthony and Liela; sisters, Teresa Agnew, and Gail Barnes and numerous nieces and nephews. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Long and a sister, Loretta Barnes. The family will greet friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM, Monday, July 1, 2013 at Restland Wildwood Chapel, with Reverend John Gillespie officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetary.
