Phung Thi Nguyen's Obituary
Phung T. Nguyen peacefully passed in her home on January 21st, 2024 in Allen, Texas. She was 80 years old. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend - she will be greatly missed by those who knew her. An industrious, kind, and pious soul – Phung (named after the mythical bird, a Phoenix) was a devout practitioner of the Buddhist Faith, a dedicated elementary school teacher, and a talented seamstress. After the Vietnam War, Phung, her husband, and their children, left Vietnam for America in 1979, spending seven days on open waters in the South China Sea to reach their destination – a refugee camp in Thailand. Phung's life was forever altered and made difficult by the war, and she worked tirelessly to ensure her family was able to immigrate to the United States and live full and productive lives. Phung and her family were sponsored by Zion Lutheran Church of Garretson, South Dakota where they lived once they arrived in America. Since it was too cold for them in South Dakota, the family moved to Texas in 1982. Phung is survived by her family including her husband, Loi Hang; sons Phuoc (Anthony) Han, and Thinh (Vincent) Hang; daughter, Dao (Karen) Nguyen; son-in-law, Tan (Paul) Nguyen; daughter-in-law, Nicole K. Han; granddaughter, Vicki Nguyen; grandson, Alexander Han; her younger sister, Thai T. Sang; older brothers, Long Van Nguyen and Tong Van Nguyen and many extended relatives and friends. There are so many lives that will be forever touched because of her selfless and caring acts for them. She will be dearly missed by her friends and family, who know she is now in a peaceful and better place with God.
