Phyllis R. Deets' Obituary
Phyllis Deets, 88, of Sachse, Texas, passed away on February 4, 2024. Born on August 5, 1935, in Barbourville, Kentucky, to Carl Braxton Stewart, Sr. and Mildred Archer Evans, Phyllis was a woman of profound faith, a homemaker, a gifted vocalist, one who loved to travel, cherished being with family, and most importantly shared her faith in Jesus with whomever, whenever, and wherever she could.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her loving spouse Coy Frelan Deets. She is survived by her two younger brothers: Dr. Carl Stewart, Jr. and Daniel Stewart, her children: James, David, and Rachel Robinson, her stepchildren: Brenda Engledow and Carol Bronson, and her four grandchildren: Joshua Robinson and Natalie Robinson Parrish, Sarah and Grayson Wheeler, and her five step-grandchildren: Christopher and Scott Bronson, Josh and James Denison, and Shannon Deets. She was preceded in death by two prior husbands: Charles Wallace Robinson and Arthur Joseph Bogdanski.
Phyllis attended Highland Park High School (Class of ’53) and studied at SMU in the Fine Arts Department, where she was an active member of the Delta Gamma Sorority and Iota Gamma, a home economics honorary organization. Always willing to flash her infectious smile, Phyllis sang chorus for three years at the Dallas Summer Musicals, was runner-up in the Miss Dallas Pageant and won the ‘Miss Flame’ Pageant in 1954.
Phyllis’ voice was heard in many churches from Kentucky to Texas as she always preferred singing gospel and hymnals over all other forms of music. She had a gift. She was the student of famed soprano vocal instructor, Celeste Moore. When Phyllis traded a professional singing career for a family, she never looked back. She became a stay-at-home mom, who fiercely protected her children.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services held. Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Phyllis Deets will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her empathy, kindness, gentle nature, faith in Jesus Christ, and love for her family will forever be cherished in our hearts.
