Phyllis Spruiell's Obituary
Phyllis Spruiell was born June 17, 1942 at Old St. Paul Hospital in Dallas. She spent her growing up years in Dallas, and graduated from Bryan Adams High School in 1960. She went to Arlington State College for 2 years and then to East Texas State College for 2 years, where she got a degree in Education. Phyllis got a Master’s Degree from North Texas State University while teaching school in Dallas where she taught for 8 1/2 years. She married Bobby Spruiell, from Dawson, Texas, who she met through her roommate Lynn Moore, also from Dawson, Texas. Daughter, Carey Lynn was born April 9, 1970 in Dallas. The family then moved to Mesquite and then to Garland, where Bobby and his friend Bill Howard had started H&S Mfg. Co., a growing business.Phyllis was a Methodist all her life and a member of First Methodist in Garland for over 35 years. Over the years, she was involved in contact telephone ministry, taught a Cambodian Sunday School Class, taught ESOL, was a Steven Minister, involved in Homework Connection at the Rock, took many Bible classes including Bible Study Fellowship, had been a member of the Action Circle, U.M.W., and the Keninia Sunday School Class. She especially valued her time spent at the senior center in later years, doing yoga and exercise, and had been a member of Garland Book Review Club for many years. Phyllis enjoyed walking and reading.Phyllis is survived by her husband, Bobby Alan; daughter, Carey Lynn and mate Leonard Montieth; brother, Henry Buchmeyer and wife Rebecca; sisters Laren Abbe and husband Devin; and Candy Maroney and husband Gil; and the children of these siblings.She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Sandra Currin.Phyllis and Bobby enjoyed time spent at their lake house at Cedar Creek Lake where Carey and Leonard lived.Visitation will be on Friday, February 1, 2019 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at 1st United Methodist in Garland. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM at 1st United Methodist in Garland.
